Southern Peninsula Community Support

Who is Southern Peninsula Community Support (SPCS)?

A lifeline for the most vulnerable and marginalized people living on the Southern Peninsula (Safety Beach to Portsea), SPCS provides crisis support, material aid, and casework support.

A key component of SPCS’s work is the Family Support Service. This unique program empowers families with children to address the challenges impacting their daily lives. Unlike many other family services, this program is flexible—it isn’t bound by time constraints or mandatory participation. Families engage with the service on their terms, allowing them to address both immediate needs, such as food or bills, and deeper, more complex issues at their own pace. The service helps families access everything from financial entitlements and education resources to housing support and specialist services.

SPCS also runs the Homeless Connections program, which provides vital support to rough sleepers. Outreach workers, work to engage individuals who have lost trust in mainstream services, offering essential items such as food, clothing, and medical support, while slowly building the trust needed to offer further assistance with housing and pathways to health services. The program operates in tandem with a bi-weekly laundry and shower service that provides rough sleepers with access to clean facilities, food, and material aid such as tents and bedding.

Why Are We Partnering?

SPCS plays a crucial role in assisting rough sleepers and families facing crises on the Southern Peninsula. With decades of experience, SPCS has developed a deep understanding of the complex needs of those sleeping rough. Their Homeless Connections program builds trust with individuals disconnected from mainstream services. By meeting people where they are, SPCS helps provide immediate relief while creating long-term pathways out of homelessness through housing, medical, and mental health support. As Jeremy from SPCS says, “There are people alive today because of your support.”

In addition to their expertise with rough sleepers, SPCS’s Family Support Service offers vital assistance to families who often fall through the cracks of traditional support systems.

SPCS provides tailored support that empowers them to take control of their lives. From practical help like budgeting and advocacy to addressing deeper issues affecting their well-being, the service helps families establish stability in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.

Families and rough sleepers alike trust SPCS because they feel genuinely supported by their holistic, flexible approach. Whether it’s helping a family get back on their feet after a crisis or guiding a rough sleeper toward a pathway out of homelessness, SPCS’s expertise and compassion are making a real difference.
